According to Coluna Do Fla, Cruzeiro presented forwards Wesley and João Costa on Monday 10 ahead of the Libertadores last 16 first leg against Flamengo, with both stressing respect for the opponents and their own readiness.

João Costa recognised Flamengo’s strength, noted the quality within Cruzeiro, and said the priority was to concentrate on themselves. He called it a dream to play in the Libertadores and said he would be prepared to start or come on to help.

Wesley described it as a game that every player wants to be involved in and said that, if Artur asks, they will give everything. He added that no player would turn down such an occasion, expecting a big atmosphere and saying they would work to put on the best possible show for the fans.

In addition to Wesley and João Costa, Cruzeiro signed Lucho Rodriguez on loan from Neom SC (SAU). The attacking arrivals followed injuries to Gabriel Pec and Sinisterra.

Flamengo, by contrast, have not added to their squad so far, meaning their last 16 list was already in place. They can still make signings until the transfer window closes on 11 September.

The first leg is on Wednesday 12 at 21:30 Brasília time at the Mineirão in Belo Horizonte. The match will be shown on Rede Globo on free to air television.
