Flamengo have unveiled Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas after the penultimate training session on Friday (04), as they prepare to face Remo on Sunday (06) in the 26th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro at Estádio Mangueirão in Belém, kick-off 16:00 Brasília time.
According to Coluna Do Fla, 19-year-old Argentine Freitas said he was thrilled to join and described himself as intense and quick, keen to break lines, contest every ball and combine in attack.
He is expected to act as Pedro’s immediate understudy despite his age. Adaptation to Brazilian football remains a gradual process, though excitement around the new signing is already building among supporters.
Valencia and Freitas could make their debuts against Remo. The final decision on selection rests with the coaching staff and will depend on each player’s physical condition.
Freitas offers much-needed cover for the number 9, who carries a heavy workload and cannot feature in every game during the run-in.
Valencia arrives with the profile to compete for a starting berth. He was initially recruited to replace Gonzalo Plata, who had been bound for Dynamo Moscow (RUS), but after the Russian club pulled out the number 19 returned to the squad and will now vie with his fellow Ecuadorian.
