Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has sparked controversy by criticising Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal for his role in the late-game clash with Lamine Yamal during Sunday’s El Clasico.
However, from a broader perspective, Carvajal’s behaviour can be seen as the response of an experienced leader defending his team’s dignity in an emotionally charged environment.
What initially appeared to be a standard on-field disagreement between Carvajal and Yamal quickly escalated into a heated confrontation involving several players from both sides.
The incident began when Carvajal, always known for his competitive edge, challenged Yamal’s behaviour in the final moments of the game.
Following the final whistle, Carvajal was joined by teammates Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jr., who approached Yamal to confront him about the comments he made before the match.
According to sources, Carvajal told Yamal to “talk less”, while Vinicius added, “Talk now! You talk too much, speak now!”

Security staff and players quickly intervened to diffuse the situation.
Yamal, for his part, challenged Vinicius to settle the matter off the pitch, a gesture that only amplified the situation online.
Yet, it was Carvajal who tried to handle the moment by keeping it within football’s boundaries rather than allowing it to spiral further.
Despite this, Joan Gaspart lashed out at the Madrid skipper in an interview with SPORT, saying,
“Who the hell is Carvajal? He was a great player, but he’s finished now.
“Why should Lamine call him when his statements weren’t even directed at him? I don’t think the problem will escalate.”
Still, many see Carvajal’s actions not as disrespectful but as a display of captaincy and discipline in the face of youthful arrogance, which is a reminder that El Clasico’s fiery spirit will always test the limits of emotion and experience.
