NAC Breda have announced that former Norwich striker Sydney van Hooijdonk has left the club. The 25-year-old striker has joined Portuguese side Estrela da Amadora on a free transfer. Van Hooijdonk only returned to NAC Breda last January on a free transfer from Cesena, but after 12 months both player and club have agreed that they needed to part ways. Van Hooijdonk leaves NAC with six goals in 36 goals during his second spell at the club, with five of these goals coming during the 2025/2026 season.
Van Hooijdonk began his career with NAC in 2018, going on to score 23 goals in 70 games. He was highly rated and snapped up by Serie A side Bologna, who then loaned him back to the Dutch league with Heerenveen. After 26 goals in 54 games for Heerveneen, he returned to Italy. However, with just one goal in 11 games, Bologna decided to send him out on loan again. The striker joined Norwich for the back end of the 2023/2024 season. He played 12 games for Norwich but failed to score in any. During the first half of the 2024/2025 season he joined Cesena on a free transfer, yet after 15 games without a goal he was released to return to NAC.
NAC are currently second bottom of the Eredivisie, two points adrift of FC Volendam and safety.
