Fotheringham strikes late as St Johnstone edge opening-day thriller | OneFootball

St Johnstone beat Kilmarnock 4-3 at McDiarmid Park to start their Scottish Premiership campaign in second place.

In the 16th minute Josh Fowler finished from Jamie Gullan's pass to give the hosts the lead, before Greg Kiltie levelled from close range (37.).

After the restart, Cheick Diabaté glanced in Gullan's corner (47.), but Joe Hugill quickly restored parity (49.). Jason Holt then put through his own net to hand Kilmarnock the advantage (53.).

St Johnstone hauled themselves back when Michael Schjønning-Larsen diverted into his own net (69.), and substitute Kai Fotheringham swept in the winner from Fowler's cut-back (80.).

Tyreece John-Jules was forced off injured before the interval, with Jamie Brandon introduced during first half stoppage time.

St Johnstone registered 15 attempts and 56% possession. Kilmarnock hit five shots on target from seven attempts.
