Real Madrid star Raúl Asencio this week finds himself at the heart of the media headlines across Spain once more, for less-than-positive reasons.

This comes amid confirmation that the defender has been charged for drink driving.

The incident dates back to August 16th, when Asencio was put through a breathalyser test after being pulled over by Spanish police whilst driving in the south of Gran Canaria.

As per a report from The Athletic, during an ensuing trial at the High Court of Justice of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria:

‘The court heard that Asencio recorded an alcohol level of 0.90 mg/l of breath — almost four times the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.’

The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges, culminating in an immediate ban from driving alongside a fine of €14,400.

News of Asencio’s off-pitch troubles comes on the same day that the stopper ramped up his recovery from injury, courtesy of taking to the grass at Valdebebas for an individualised training session.
