France U21 manager ‘worried’ after Ethan Mbappé injury | OneFootball

France’s U21 manager, Gérald Baticle, has admitted that he is “worried” about Ethan Mbappé (19), who came off on a stretcher during Les Bleuets’ 2-0 win over Estonia on Tuesday night.

Mbappé was on the receiving end of a studs-up tackle on his ankle in the 12th minute and was consequently taken off on a stretcher. Baticle admitted post-match that he was “worried”. The France U21 manager added, “I hope to be worried for nothing, but I am because I saw the tackle from the midfielder and I don’t like to see tackles like that. I don’t like to see my players in situations like that. Now, I am awaiting the results of the [medical] tests.”

It hasn’t been a good international break for the Mbappé family. Ethan’s brother, Kylian, has also been forced to withdraw from the France set-up due to injury. He has sustained an injury to his left knee; his period of unavailability has yet to be determined. Ethan also received the bad news of a three-game ban in the UEFA Champions League on Monday. That may now be irrelevant.
