As reported by Bild, Florian Müller has agreed personal terms with Freiburg, with a transfer fee agreed with Stuttgart.
The Swabians, who have just survived relegation through the playoffs, will receive €1.5m for the backup goalkeeper. Müller appeared for Stuttgart in both relegation playoff games against Hamburg, which had delayed the deal getting over the line.
Throughout the course of the season, Müller has featured 22 times for Stuttgart after being replaced by Fabian Bredlow halfway through the year. This has seen Müller keep just two clean sheets while conceding 36 goals.
Müller will leave for the Black Forest to act as a backup to young German under-21 international Noah Atubolu, who will become Christian Streich’s new number-one next season. The 25-year-old goalkeeper spent a season on loan with Freiburg during the 2020/21 campaign where he would make 31 appearances for the side.
During the two playoff games, the Saarland native would produce some phenomenal saves to ensure Stuttgart would not surrender their advantage to HSV, which contrasted with the misfortune of Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
