Millwall are reportedly holding out for a hefty club-record transfer sale as prized asset and star winger, Femi Azeez, continues to attract interest from Premier League newcomers, Hull City.

That is according to the Sun, with the Lions on the cusp of starting their second full Championship season under Alex Neil this weekend.

Millwall have now become viewed as one of the division's 'nearly' teams, having failed to break into the play-offs for many seasons, before eventually making the top six last term and still being unable to reach the top-flight for the first time in 36 years.

After being pipped for automatic promotion by Ipswich Town on the final day, it was Sergej Jakirovic's Tigers who ran out 2-0 winners in the play-off semi-finals against the South London outfit before winning at Wembley against Middlesbrough.

Millwall have endured an intriguing summer transfer window thus far, with six incomings and nine departures sanctioned, and whilst some would expect Azeez to move on, it would still be a huge blow to the club's aims for the season.

Azeez was signed by the Championship outfit from League One side, Reading, two summers ago for approximately £1m, which has proven to be a bargain.

After a mixed first season at The Den, during which two goals and six assists were registered in 35 Championship games, the two-time Nigerian international burst into life last campaign as Neil's side challenged for promotion.

The 25-year-old significantly improved his goal output by scoring 11 times and posting a further six assists, and had been the subject of intense transfer interest from clubs also in the second tier at the time, as well as in the Premier League.

It was exclusively revealed by Football League World on August 3rd that Azeez was of interest to the East Yorkshire side, with Jakirovic looking to add further attacking reinforcements to aid a survival bid at the MKM Stadium.

And, the Sun now state the top-flight newboys are in 'pole position' to strike a deal, although the Lions are seeking a 'top-dollar' sale, which would significantly eclipse the £14.5m fee agreed with Crystal Palace in 2025 for Romain Esse, having already rejected a bid for Azeez this summer.

At present, the forward has two years left to run on his contract in SE16, which still leaves Millwall with a significant amount of bargaining power in what remains of the window.

Not only that, but their desire to keep Azeez at the club has been there for all to see aside from the aforementioned record-bid rejection, with it being claimed earlier in the summer that a valuation as high as £30m had been placed on his services.

Ipswich also saw multiple bids turned down on Deadline Day in February, with former Tractor Boys boss, Kieran McKenna, stating that a deal between all parties was 'not attainable' at that particular moment.

After impressing in the Championship last season and attracting prior interest from Premier League clubs, Azeez will certainly feel he has earned a first shot at featuring in the division, and Hull's move, whilst it comes after prior transfer struggles, doesn't necessarily indicate that a move for him is a 'last resort'.

That said, the Sun's claim about the club being in 'pole position' also came after Jakirovic revealed that a high-profile move for Leon Bailey of Aston Villa is currently off after weeks of speculation, whilst also pulling the plug on a move for OGC Nice's Mohamed-Ali Cho.

However, the Bosnian appears to have also landed a significant blow to one of Millwall's divisional rivals too, with it being revealed that after initially closing in on a transfer to Birmingham City, Joe Gelhardt's return to HU3 could be wrapped up in the coming days.
