Gabigol has said he still wants to return to Flamengo one day, stressing the bond he built across six seasons at the club.
"I want to. Football is crazy, I do not know how it will be, but I do want it. Flamengo is a team that moves me, with so much history, titles and supporters. I even played there more than at Santos," he told Clear TV.
"It is hard for me to play against them, I do not feel comfortable. Going back to the Maracanã to face them is not easy, being honest, it is not," he said.
He arrived on loan from Inter Milan in early 2019 after leading the scoring for Santos in the league and the cup. Flamengo had tried to sign Pablo from Athletico-PR, so Gabigol became plan B. He debuted on 23 January in a 2-1 win over Resende and netted his first on 24 February in a 4-1 victory against Americano.
He made 308 appearances, delivering 161 goals and 43 assists, and won 13 trophies, including two Libertadores, two Brazilian league titles, two Copas do Brasil, two Supercopas do Brasil, one Recopa Sul-Americana and four state titles. After failing to agree a renewal at the end of 2024 he joined Cruzeiro and is now on loan at Santos until December 2026, with no purchase option. His next step will be decided when the loan ends, so his comments resonate with Flamengo fans.
