Villarreal will assess captain Gerard Moreno’s readiness to rejoin full training this week, with Marcelino indicating the striker could be back soon and might face Elche.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the squad return on Tuesday after the 4-1 defeat at Barcelona, and focus will be on Moreno’s possible reintegration. Ayoze Pérez is also expected to take part after being withdrawn at Camp Nou.
Moreno has been absent for almost three weeks with a hamstring issue, the club have not disclosed its extent. Marcelino said on Friday that his recovery is progressing positively and, if all goes to plan, he will rejoin sessions very soon. The coach added that he might be available for Elche.
Ayoze felt minor muscular discomfort when he came off against Barça, which was understood to stem from a knock during the match. He is not expected to have problems working alongside team-mates at the José Manuel Llaneza training ground.
Logan Costa and Willy Kambwala have also been edging back in recent days and are expected to continue integrating with the group.
Villarreal host Elche at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday, 8 March at 14.00, in LaLiga’s 27th round. The squad and staff under Marcelino have set a top-four finish, and a return to the Champions League for a second successive season, as their objective.
