Gerenabarrena will return to Athletic Club when his loan with Castellón expires on 30 June. Castellón said in a statement that the Basque midfielder's season-long spell is ending, praising his professionalism, daily commitment, versatility in midfield and exemplary conduct on and off the pitch.

Across the campaign he played 39 official matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists, totalling 2,798 minutes.

He featured in different roles in the centre of the pitch and became a regular presence in the side.

Gerenabarrena said he was proud to represent the albinegro colours and leaves grateful for the opportunity, describing the season as a valuable experience.

He also thanked the supporters for their constant backing, the club staff for their work, and his team-mates in the dressing room. He signed off with 'Pam Pam orellut'.
