Germany’s first international window under Jürgen Klopp brought one point from six in the Nations League, a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam then a 0-1 home defeat to Greece in Augsburg. The opening squad’s displays produced a mixed report card.
According to Get German Football News, 21 players were graded, four A-level winners and two D-level losers, most others in between.
Philipp Treu earned an A on debut, his cross leading to Felix Nmecha’s opener after Joshua Kimmich’s switch. Yann Aurel Bisseck impressed with a decisive first start, while Nico Schlotterbeck looked calmer in Amsterdam. Karim Adeyemi was the most persistent threat across two starts but wasteful.
Marc-André ter Stegen mixed errant distribution with key saves against the Netherlands. Alexander Nübel had little to do versus Greece, the goal deflecting off Kimmich.
Serge Gnabry’s cameo included the stoppage-time turnover that preceded Cody Gakpo’s equaliser from a Ruben van Bommel cross. Kimmich’s deep role brought a glaring giveaway and an unlucky deflection, while Nmecha’s goal was offset by poor choices and a missed challenge before Dimitrios Kourbelis’s winner. Josha Vagnoman and Anton Stach anchored the lower grades after an ineffective start at right-back and two low-impact cameos respectively.
With the window at its midpoint, the second half of Klopp’s 44-player experiment now begins with a largely different group. There is no sense of panic, yet many places remain up for grabs and the appetite to see the regular 26-man squad in November is growing.
