La Liga outfit Getafe have positioned themselves in the running for the signature of a player widely labelled a ‘villain’ at this summer’s World Cup.
The player in question? Matias Galarza.
Midfielder Galarza of course saw his name grab the headlines across world football over recent weeks. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, though, as much came for all the wrong reasons.
En route to Paraguay being sent packing from the World Cup in the Round-of-16, the River Plate star rubbed fans and players alike the wrong way, courtesy of a combination of dirty tactics, fouls, play-acting and simulation.
When actually focused on football rather than the dark arts, though, Galarza showcased evident talent.
And as alluded to above, such ability is understood to have piqued the attentions of clubs in Spain, Italy and beyond with a view to next season.
As per a report from market insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Paraguay’s Matias Galarza can leave River Plate this summer after his performances at the World Cup. Getafe, Bologna and Saudi Pro League clubs all asked for information.’
