Flamengo have agreed the sale of Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow, meaning the forward will no longer play for the club. Head coach Leonardo Jardim will not name the No 19 for Sunday’s derby with Botafogo, on the 30th.
According to Coluna Do Fla, his ticket has been issued for an overnight flight from Friday 28 into Saturday 29. Before departing, he will visit Ninho do Urubu to say goodbye to team-mates.
The trip is for medical tests and to sign a contract expected to run for four years. If all proceeds smoothly, he will begin representing Dynamo Moscow.
Plata joined Flamengo in August 2024 and leaves with 100 appearances and nine goals. One of those secured the 2024 Copa do Brasil title against Atlético-MG.
His spell featured highs and lows, with sections of the fanbase at times unhappy with his conduct on and off the pitch. Since his World Cup return, supporters had rallied behind him.
The deal could reach 12 million euros, exceeding R$ 72 million, and Flamengo want the fee paid up front.
Brazil’s window remains open until 11 September, but Libertadores registration for the quarter-finals closes on Friday 4. Otherwise, Flamengo will face Independiente del Valle with the current squad and without Gonzalo Plata.
In July, the club tried to sign Thiago Almada, who chose River Plate, and moved for Luiz Henrique, but Zenit kept him. After those setbacks, Flamengo backed the group against Cruzeiro in the last 16, and there is now anticipation over whether they can replace Plata in time.
