Grêmio on Friday showed the media a raft of upgrades at CT Luiz Carvalho in Porto Alegre’s north, with further work planned. The improvements were carried out in the opening months of the year, according to Globo.com.
A third pitch is being created on the site of a former sand pit to add another option beyond the two training fields for technical drills. Player recovery, even at the start of pre-season or after holidays, is already ball-based, so the club is expanding capacity. The new pitch is expected to be ready by July.
The CT’s entrance and interior have been paved with PAVS blocks to improve the look and eliminate flooding spots. Up to 100 covered parking spaces are due next month. Executive of administration Lisiane Freitas led the tour alongside vice-president of football Rafael Lima.
Inside, equipment and facilities have been refreshed. The briefing room where Luís Castro shows videos now has bleacher-style seating, at the coach’s request, to help him see every player during explanations.
The cryotherapy area has received new equipment replacing the old ice baths, allowing more precise control of water temperature.
Internal and external areas have new paint, and corridors are lined with synthetic turf. Most upgrades were delivered through partnerships with sponsors and suppliers, with the club’s outlay at under 20% of the total.
The CT has scope to grow, with plans that include a hotel block to serve the players. For now, the club’s finances do not allow those projects to proceed.
