Guido given green light to attend Messi tribute | OneFootball

Javier Aguirre has allowed Guido Rodríguez to travel to Argentina to attend Leo Messi’s tribute next Tuesday.

According to AS, the midfielder, one of Aguirre’s captains and a dressing-room leader, hosted a squad barbecue last Thursday to build unity. He needed permission as the transoceanic trip will cost him a couple of training sessions in the week competition resumes.

Aguirre, mindful it is a special day for Guido with a special person, recognised its importance. Guido and Messi won the world title in 2022 and the Copa Américas in 2021 and 2024 together.

Guido will not be on the pitch for Argentina against Benin, as Lionel Scaloni has not been calling him up recently. He will instead take part in the pre-match ceremonies organised by the AFA at the Monumental in Buenos Aires.

After the tribute, he will return to Valencia to prepare for Sunday 11 at El Sardinero against Racing.
