The Blades' prized asset is approaching the final year of his current contract at Bramall Lane
Sheffield United and Coventry City are two sides who will have differing aims for the remainder of the Championship season, despite the fact that both were largely tipped to earn places in the top six before a ball was kicked.
The Blades have, in recent months, performed admirably to initially drag themselves clear of the relegation battle, with it looking as though a first drop into League One since 2016 would have been likely had they retained the managerial services of Ruben Selles instead of reappointing boyhood supporter, Chris Wilder, for the third time in September.
Many believed that an upturn in form at the turn of 2026 could have been enough for the Steel City side to mount an ambitious late bid for the play-offs. However, it appears as though results in recent outings may have just consigned United to a third successive season in the Championship.
Meanwhile, the Sky Blues added to their recent run of momentum with a 2-1 victory at Bramall Lane on February 25th, with Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni sealing a comeback and statement victory against a side who, in recent times, have had the Indian sign on the West Midlands outfit more often than not.
Throughout the match, the travelling support were heard chanting towards ex-Coventry ace, Callum O'Hare, who swapped CV6 for S2 one year after Gustavo Hamer had done the same for a reported £15m sum.
However, whilst the season has been mixed for the Blades, the Dutch-Brazilian's creativity has still been a vital asset, even though his performance levels, at times, have wavered.
Hamer has also been the subject of continued transfer interest throughout the season, as he now heads towards what will be the final year of his current four-year deal which he signed in August 2023 for the S2 club.
With that being said, Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy - of the Blades Ramble YouTube channel - believes there are a whole mix of possibilities which could occur this summer regarding the playmaker.

During his two previous full seasons at Bramall Lane, Hamer has had a strong influence on proceedings for the Blades, which included a double-figure accumulation of goals and assists during the club's dismal 2023/24 Premier League season.
Last term, the 28-year-old was named as the Championship Player of the Season, and he has accrued over 30 goals and assists since the start of last campaign.
However, as has often been the case, the January transfer window saw the United attacker become the subject of transfer interest, this time from Trabzonspor.
The aforementioned Wilder has recently stated that he hopes to tie Hamer down to a new deal, but that, ultimately, all parties must be in full agreement also.
As such, Jimmy hasn't ruled out the possibility of Hamer staying in South Yorkshire, or even potentially returning to Coventry, who are closing in on a Premier League return for the first time in 25 years.
When asked if United could cash in on Hamer this summer, Jimmy said: "Simply put, yes, I can see us cashing in on him.
"If I'm honest, I'm not sure he's a consistent Premier League-level player due to the consistency which he lacks. I think the quality is there for all to see. When he's on his game, he's a brilliant player," he claimed.
"He won the Championship Player of the Season last year, and that's no accident. But, I think there's a strong chance that Coventry take a look at bringing him back if they get promoted, and it's looking more like 'when' they get promoted.
"I also think there's a chance that Sheffield United agree a new contract with him," Jimmy added.
"We are ambitious ourselves. I don't think we'll be spending a lot on transfer fees now we're going to lose parachute payments.
"But, I think we'll get a lot of the 'bloated' squad out, which should free up some budget to maintain the current squad as it is.
"I don't think it's a done deal that he leaves, but it also wouldn't shock me at all to see him go for the right price in the summer," he explained.

As Jimmy alluded to, all possibilities are still on the table for Hamer, which includes remaining in the Steel City.
According to figures from Capology, the Blades currently have the second-highest wage bill in the Championship at a weekly cost of £606,750.
Hamer is believed to be earning £30,000 of that particular figure, showcasing his status in the squad, and why his signature is so highly courted by clubs across the Premier League and Europe.
As such, United could be left with a dilemma where Wilder, unsurprisingly, wants to retain his creator-in-chief's services in the long run to match the club's ambitions. But, if a new contract cannot be agreed, it is imperative the Blades look to make a profit on the £15m they parted with whilst the playmaker's stock is still relatively high.
