Corinthians resumed training at CT Joaquim Grava on Wednesday morning after two days off, with defender Gustavo Henrique stressing the value of the break before the derby with Santos in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
He said the players made the most of their rest and are now focused on working hard in the build-up, aiming to be ready to produce a strong display on Sunday, he told Corinthians TV.
The squad were given Monday and Tuesday off following the 2-1 defeat to Coritiba at Couto Pereira on Sunday.
It is the first free week for Fernando Diniz’s staff since the schedule resumed in the second half of July.
The Clássico Alvinegro is set for Neo Química Arena at 16:00 on Sunday, part of the 25th round. While preparing for that match, Corinthians are also looking towards a Libertadores quarter-final against Estudiantes of Argentina in the weeks of nine and 16 September.
Despite advancing continentally, Corinthians are seeking to steady their league form after losses to Cruzeiro and Coritiba, which left them 10th on 32 points. Three more training sessions are planned before the derby.
