Habib Beye seeks positive OM finish against Rennes, says he believes in destiny | OneFootball

Habib Beye faces Rennes at the Vélodrome on Sunday at 21:00, the club that dismissed him in early February. Despite Rennes’ surge under Franck Haise, Marseille could finish above them.

Since nine February, Rennes have 28 points from 12 games, OM 17. On eight February, after the 0-5 against Paris-SG, OM were fourth with an eight-point lead. Rennes now arrive three ahead and chasing the Champions League, while OM can finish at best fifth if they win. According to L'Équipe, Haise was appointed on 18 February, the same day Beye took over at OM.

Beye says he respects Rennes and is not motivated by revenge, but wants to sign off well with OM.

His Rennes exit turned fractious after a 3-0 Coupe de France loss at the Vélodrome and a 3-1 defeat at Lens, including a row over Brice Samba, and the dispute is now headed for a labour tribunal.

Strains had grown amid uneven results and a more directive approach, with senior players benched. A brief rally brought a 2-0 win at Lille on three January, yet inconsistency endured despite notable victories over OM, Lyon, Strasbourg and Monaco.

At OM, he walked into a turbulent context. A 3-2 win over OL on one March was followed by a shootout exit to Toulouse on four March and league defeats to Lille and at Lorient. OM could still reach the Europa League, and Beye says he believes in destiny, recalling his first top-flight match, Strasbourg 1-0 on two February 2025.
