Bayer Leverkusen head out in search of a win against Hamburg tonight at the Volksparkstadion after an underwhelming end to their February results.
This is the rescheduled match between the two sides from January, which was postponed due to adverse weather conditions in Hamburg.
Die Rothosen suffered a defeat in their last match to RB Leipzig, despite opening the scores in the 22nd-minute through Arsenal loanee Fábio Vieira. The visitors responded soon as strikes from Romulo and Yan Diomande handed the hosts a loss in their backyard. The Volksparkstadion has otherwise remained a fortress for HSV as they have registered points against Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich in four of their last eight home games.
Miro Muheim is suspended for the match after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in his previous outing. Head coach Merlin Polzin must replace Nicolás Capaldo as he sustained an abdominal injury in the matchup with Leipzig. Warmed Omari is expected to deputise for the Argentine in defence.
As for Leverkusen, they come into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Mainz 05. The stalemate meant that Die Werkself dropped points for the third straight match as they now sit sixth in the Bundesliga standings with 40 points.
Jarell Quansah, Edmond Tapsoba and Robert Andrich are set to start in defence due to the absence of Loïc Badé. Axel Tape remains the only option for Kasper Hjulmand to feature in the right flank with Arthur and Lucas Vázquez out injured. Tape, Ibrahim Maza, Ernest Poku and Alejandro Grimaldo are expected to take offensive roles in a 3-2-4-1 formation, supporting Patrick Schick upfront.
Hamburg: Fernandes – Omari, Vušković, Torunarigha – Gocholeishvili, Vieira, Remberg, Mikelbrencis – Konigsdorffer, Glatzel, Otele.
Leverkusen: Blaswich – Quansah, Andrich, Tapsoba – Palacios, Aleix Garcia – Tape, Maza, Grimaldo, Poku – Schick.
