According to SPORT, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is facing a crucial choice regarding the attacking midfield role ahead of the upcoming clash with Girona.

With Dani Olmo returning injured from national team duty and Fermin Lopez still doubtful, Flick must decide whether to take a risk by starting Fermin or explore alternative options.

Barcelona recently suffered a defeat to Sevilla, missing the chance to move to the top of the La Liga table.

Even though the season has just started, the Blaugrana cannot afford to lose more ground to Real Madrid, especially with the El Clasico on October 26 looming large.

One of the positions giving Flick the most headaches is the attacking midfield slot, as Olmo’s absence is confirmed.

Under normal circumstances, Fermin would step in, but after weeks out injured, starting him may not be the safest choice.

Flick and his coaching staff, therefore, will closely monitor his progress in the next training sessions to determine if he is ready for a start.

What are Flick’s options then?

If the coaching staff decides not to take any risks, Barcelona have several options. With Gavi injured and Raphinha also doubtful, Flick could promote Marc Casado into the starting XI.

This, as a result, will allow Flick to move Pedri into a more advanced role as Casado will partner with Frenkie de Jong in the midfield.

There are also attacking options with Ferran Torres or Marcus Rashford, who could operate in the midfield to support the attack.

Finally, Flick could look to Barcelona’s academy, which continues to provide more than just backup but genuine quality options for the first team.

Understandably, Flick’s decision will be critical not only for the Girona game but also for maintaining momentum ahead of one of the season’s biggest fixtures.
