Ruben Amorim took aim at Harry Amass in response to question marks over his treatment of Manchester United academy players.
Amorim departs United without having started any academy player in the Premier League this season.
In December, the Portuguese tactician defended his decision-making by questioning the readiness of several youngsters, including Amass.
Amorim suggested the 18-year-old was struggling in the Championship. However, he couldn’t have been more wrong.
Manchester United loaned out Harry Amass to Sheffield Wednesday on transfer deadline day.
At Sheffield, the highly-rated left-back has quickly established himself as a fan favourite and an integral part of Henrik Pedersen’s side, having made 21 appearances in the Championship. He has been directly involved in two goals for the Owls.
Further, the Englishman has won Wednesday’s player of the month awards for November and December.
However, Wednesday will have to make do without one of their best players in the second half of the season.
According to BBC, the Owls are “set to lose the services” of Amass. The England U19 international is returning to United with his loan period having expired.
However, Amass is unlikely to play for the Red Devils this season.
It is understood clubs higher up the Championship are interested in signing the United starlet for the remainder of the campaign.
As per The Sun, the United hierarchy were unhappy with Amorim’s criticism of academy players Amass and Chido Obi.
Last summer, United also parted ways with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho after the high-profile attackers fell out with Amorim. Garnacho has joined Chelsea permanently, but Rashford, who is currently at Barcelona, remains on the club’s books.
