Harry Winks has arrived in Italy to complete a medical with Cagliari, the Leicester City midfielder set to depart after three years.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he is set to sign a two-year contract, with his exit expected following relegation to League One.
Winks missed Saturday’s 3-0 pre-season win at Northampton, watching team-mates at Seagrave before heading out.
He has gone to Rome’s Villa Stuart sports medicine clinic for tests as the move gathers pace.
He is expected to be confirmed as Gianluca Gaetano’s replacement after Gaetano joined Atalanta last week.
It would mark a return to Italy for the former England international, who spent 2022/23 with Sampdoria.
Financial details remain undisclosed, but the transfer would generate a fee for Leicester and remove his high wages during their rebuild.
Head coach Russell Martin has said players will leave over the summer and he expects arrivals fairly soon, though he has not specified names or timings.
He also anticipates the group will look different by the time they reach Spain in pre-season.
