Hearts climb to second as Wilson sparks Tynecastle win

Hearts beat St Johnstone 2-1 at Tynecastle Park to rise from fourth to second in the Scottish Premiership.

James Wilson opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing from Josh McPake's pass after a sharp break through the centre. The Jambos doubled their advantage when Enes Alić put through his own net (39.).

After the restart, Ruari Paton halved the deficit from close range after Samuel Stanton's headed set-up (48.). Blair Spittal entered from the bench (57.), Beau Reus then denied Paton with a fingertip stop (60.), and Spittal later rattled the bar from distance, teed up by McPake (68.).

Toby Steward made seven saves to keep St Johnstone in the game. Hearts tallied 16 attempts with seven on target. St Johnstone registered nine attempts and delivered 22 crosses.

Next up, Hearts visit Hibernian. St Johnstone travel to Dundee.
