It is almost never easy for any FC Barcelona player to bid farewell to the club. In particular, academy talents almost always have the hardest time with the whole process due to just how connected and attached to the club they are.
Unfortunately for a certain academy product, it seems that time has now arrived. FC Barcelona have already officially confirmed the departure of 20-year-old right-back Hector Fort to Real Sociedad, and the player has now officially announced his departure as well.
In a heartfelt farewell message to the club and the fans, Fort recalled his early years and just how attached he has been to the club since an early age:
“I was born just a few metres from Camp Nou, in a family and a neighbourhood that feel the colours of this club like no one else. At seven years old, it all began for that boy from Les Corts who played in the square and would eventually wear the shirt of the club he had always considered his own.”
He also stated that he was grateful to have accomplished his dream of playing for Barça and just how big of an impact that has had on his life:
“There are no words to express what it has meant to me to have been lucky enough to fulfil my family’s dream and, of course, my own. Wearing these colors, winning trophies and carrying this badge on my chest for 13 years has been one of the most beautiful things that has ever happened to me in life.”
Even though he is now set to leave the club on a permanent deal, Fort clarified that he will always remain a supporter of Barcelona and will always have a special connection to the club:
“I am and always will be a culer. Now it’s time for me to continue my journey away from home, but I will always carry with me the values of Barça, everything this club has taught me and the pride of having grown up here.”
Finally, as the closing statement of his letter to the club and fans, he ended things on a beautiful note:
“See you soon, culers. Visca el Barça.”
Hopefully, the young defender goes on to have an amazing career wherever it ends up taking him. He was a great asset to the club and his years of service to Barça will always be appreciated despite his departure.
