Hervé Renard has been appointed Tunisia head coach on Tuesday after the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi. L'Équipe reports the Frenchman returns after two months out to lead his seventh national side.

He first made his name with Zambia across two spells from 2008 to 2013, lifting the 2012 AFCON after a 0-0, 8-7 on penalties against Côte d'Ivoire. A brief 2010 stop with Angola ended after three defeats.

In 2014 he took over Côte d'Ivoire from Sabri Lamouchi and, with leaders like Yaya Touré, won the 2015 AFCON against Ghana, 0-0 then 9-8 on penalties, becoming the only coach to win it with two nations.

After a failed Lille spell, he led Morocco from 2016, lost the 2017 AFCON quarter-final to Egypt 1-0, qualified for the 2018 World Cup, but resigned after Benin beat them on penalties in the 2019 last 16.

Saudi Arabia followed in 2019, qualifying for 2022 and beating Argentina 2-1 before a group exit. He left for France’s women, returned in October 2024 to qualify again, then was sacked in April after poor friendlies.

With Les Bleues he exited in the 2023 World Cup quarters to Australia, 0-0 then 6-7 on penalties, and at Paris 2024 to Brazil, 0-1, amid a muddled link to Côte d'Ivoire. He now inherits a Tunisia side routed 5-1 by Sweden in their World Cup opener, a daunting rescue job.
