Shortly after their spectacular 5-1 season-opener victory in the Bundesliga against VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern is preparing for Wednesday night’s cup match in Osnabrück. All of this took place under the watchful eye of a prominent guest at training.
As previously announced, Jürgen Klopp, the new German national team coach, paid a visit to FC Bayern. On Friday evening, he was still at the stadium, watching the opening-day victory firsthand and taking note of the performances of several potential national team players.
He will name his first squad in a few weeks and will certainly call upon several players from the record-holding champions. He will also have a conversation with one or two pros beforehand.
On Sunday, however, Klopp wasn’t just a spectator watching the drills—he also spoke briefly with Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. The two coaches had already been in contact. The national team coach has also spoken with Sebastian Hoeneß of VfB Stuttgart and BVB coach Niko Kovac.

Klopp might also be looking to reach out to Jamal Musiala. The two already had a brief exchange following the two collapses against Leipzig and Heidenheim in the preseason friendlies.
“Everything will turn out fine in the end—everyone actually agrees on that—it’s just not the case right now. And I definitely wanted to put his mind at ease about whether this would have any consequences—which, of course, it doesn’t,” Klopp explained ahead of the season opener. There’s not much else I can take away from him,” Klopp explained ahead of the season opener.
Whether Musiala will be part of the squad for the first four Nations League matches remains to be seen in the coming weeks and depends heavily on how the player develops from here on out.
