How Geoffroy-Guichard will cut its water bill by at least half

Saint-Etienne will host Clermont at Geoffroy-Guichard on 14 August, 20:45, on a brand-new pitch installed to reduce water use via an underground irrigation system.

According to Le Progres, the 11-week project is designed to deliver a more sustainable surface by watering from below the turf.

At the Cauldron, workers are burying the hydraulic unit at the foot of the north kop that will feed the new grass. Tractors are circling the field to level the substrate laid last week.

The refurbishment carries a €2.3 million price tag.

Since 1 June, the Saint-Etienne metropolitan authority and the company Natural grass have been leading the works ahead of the season’s first home game.
