Davis Keillor-Dunn has moved from Wrexham to Sheffield Wednesday, and former Owl Josh Windass has reacted

The signing of the summer in League One arguably came after the transfer window shut, as Sheffield Wednesday secured the short-term services of Wrexham's Davis Keillor-Dunn.

In the 18 months leading up to Keillor-Dunn's move to North Wales in January, the 28-year-old was one of the most dangerous forwards in League One at Barnsley, netting 31 times in 66 games at Oakwell.

Now, he's back in South Yorkshirebut is playing in Sheffield, with Wednesday signing him on loan until January,making him the 18th and final arrival of what has been an incredibly busy summer window at Hillsborough.

The Owls used a deal sheet to get the move over the line following the 11 pm deadline on Tuesday, with further ratification needed from the footballing authorities.

Wednesday fans won't need too much in terms of an introduction to Keillor-Dunn. While his goalscoring prowess in League One took place while they were in the Championship, the 28-year-old was capturing attention all across the EFL throughout it.

Wrexham were the side to eventually bring him to the second tier, but seven months later, after just nine substitute appearances at the Stok Cae Ras, Keillor-Dunn has found his way back to the third tier.

If those of a Wednesday persuasion aren't familiar with their new signing, though, former Owl and current Wrexham man Josh Windass has left a glowing endorsement on the South Yorkshire side's Instagram post announcing the arrival.

"Oooof, what a player," he commented. A brief, four-word endorsement, but one that outlines how much of a coup this is for the recently relegated side.

Windass is highly regarded at Hillsborough mainly due to his performances when the club were last in League One under Darren Moore.

The 32-year-old stayed at Sheffield Wednesday after their last relegation from the Championship in 2021, and while a hamstring injury and a further setback in February restricted him to just nine appearances in the Owls' first season back in the third tier, it was in the 2022/23 campaign that he excelled.

Windass registered 18 goal contributions in 34 regular season games and netted the late winner in the play-off final against Barnsley at Wembley, securing a return to the second tier after a couple of years away.

That Wednesday team are heralded as heroes, due mainly to the dramatic play-off semi-final win over Peterborough United, coined the 'Miracle of Hillsborough,' where Darren Moore's side overturned a 4-0 first-leg deficit to win on penalties in the return leg after a 5-1 win after extra time.

If Keillor-Dunn can contribute nearly as much as Windass did in this loan spell, those Sheffield Wednesday fans who are already excited about the new era under the Arise ownership will waste little time in making the 28-year-old a fan favourite.

Keillor-Dunn's arrival helped numb the pain and frustration of the prospect of losing Louie Barry for the next three months due to a rather unfortunate ankle injury he suffered against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old had really started to hit his stride at Hillsborough, netting twice and providing an assist in the 7-2 demolition of Bromley last weekend before opening the scoring at Adams Park shortly before being taken off.

Keillor-Dunn will likely slot into the Barry-sized hole in Henrik Pedersen's attack over the coming months, and if there's anyone who can maintain the threat that the former Aston Villa starlet can provide, it would be the Wrexham loanee.

The only real frustration is that, with Keillor-Dunn's loan only being for half the season, Wednesday fans may be robbed of the prospect of seeing two of League One's most dangerous marksmen in recent seasons play alongside each other.

Ideally, the 28-year-old will want to extend his stay at Hillsborough past the initial January 2 deadline, and his performances in the first half of the season won't do enough to warrant interest from Championship sides.

If there's a world where both Keillor-Dunn and Barry are working together in the second half of the season, an already dangerous-looking Wednesday attack could be near unstoppable.
