As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, newly promoted Premier League side Hull City are keen on Fiorentina’s Niccolò Fortini.
The 20-year-old Lucca-born player, capable of playing as a fullback as well as a wide midfielder on either flank, had his coming-of-age season with La Viola last season, managing 26 appearances for them as well as earning his first cap for Italy.
Now, he is in Hull City’s sights. The Tigers are returning to the English top flight after a decade-long hiatus and are keen to give it their all and hopefully replicate Sunderland’s exploits from last season and deliver an odds-defying campaign.
Hull City are interested in taking Fortini up on loan initially, while retaining the option to buy him next summer. The player is yet to agree to the move, and if here to do so, he would renew his contract with Fiorentina in the process. His current deal with the Florentine outfit, fetching him a gross annual salary of €236,000, expires next June.
Today’s Corriere dello Sport – via ViolaNews, have updates. They believe the Tigers are ready to beat competition from Torino for the Italian and there is a good chance the deal now goes through soon.
This seems like a low-risk move that could work for all parties in the long term. Hull are looking to take a promising player on loan, who in turn has an opportunity to showcase his talent on arguably the most competitive stage in world football while also getting an improved contract with his parent club.
If it doesn’t work out, no harm done. He could return to Serie A and try again. On the other hand, if he shone on an individual level, regardless of what fate befalls Hull City come next May, he would be singled out as one of the shining lights of their campaign and be subject to better offers in the summer.
Of course, Italian players tend to think twice before moving abroad, but that trend has been changing in recent seasons, and this on its own is a very promising proposition for everyone involved.
