PSV Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz has been left ‘surprised’ after Rangers pulled the plug on signing winger Couhaib Driouech.

Driouech had a productive season with PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie last season and was set to join Rangers; his medical was also completed.

But the Gers decided not to sign the 24-year-old winger, and the move collapsed ‘due to an injury’, which has come as a shock to PSV Eindhoven head coach Bosz.

The PSV Eindhoven manager was left ‘surprised’ after Driouech’s move to Rangers fell through, especially after Rangers and PSV had agreed on the transfer.

Bosz was quoted by Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink as saying: “A surprise.

“The clubs had agreed. I was surprised.”

It remains to be seen if Driouech will now continue at PSV Eindhoven this season, especially given he has been drawing interest from other clubs.

Driouech was left out of PSV Eindhoven’s opening Eredivisie game against Fortuna Sittard, and it was believed he was not fully fit, and it was not due to his possible move to Ibrox.

In the previous campaign, the Moroccan winger played 40 matches, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists, without any injury concerns.

Rangers have had a poor start to the new season, having lost two and drawn two in the last four games, and have been knocked out of the Europa League under new manager Derek McInnes.

The Gers are under pressure to make key additions to the squad to avoid last season’s disappointing third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership and ending the season without winning any silverware.

The failed move for Driouech has not slowed things down at Ibrox, as the club are set to sign Hearts defender James Penrice on loan, with a medical booked for the left-back.

With the summer transfer window in full flow, Rangers will now look at other alternatives to bolster their front line, while also focusing on improving their current form to register their first win of the new season.
