IFAB has left the issue of goalkeepers feigning injury to spark tactical time-outs unresolved after its meeting on Monday, an area Daniel Farke highlighted this season.

During Leeds United’s November visit to Manchester City, Gianluigi Donnarumma sat down appearing hurt, and Ruben Dias called team-mates to the touchline for a chat with Pep Guardiola. Farke criticised attempts to bend fair play. According to the BBC, a suggestion to remove an outfield player was rejected amid concern genuinely injured keepers might avoid treatment.

No immediate fix was approved, and trials of possible repercussions will now be staged to identify the most effective deterrent. A raft of other law changes takes effect from one June.

Competitions may extend VAR to check corner or goal-kick decisions and to review second yellow cards, though few leagues are expected to adopt this given further delays.

Countdown timers are being introduced for goal-kicks and set-pieces, with possession reversed if takers exceed the limit.

Substituted players must leave within 10 seconds or the replacement will wait at least one minute to enter. The same one-minute period applies after on-field treatment, excluding goalkeepers.

Red cards can now be shown if an out-of-possession attacker is fouled when an obvious scoring chance is denied. Arsene Wenger’s daylight offside proposal is to be trialled in Canada.
