"Impressive," says Corinthians’ Uruguayan full-back about the Fiel Torcida

On the afternoon of last Sunday (1), Corinthians defeated Flamengo with a score of 2 x 0 at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília, in a match valid for the final of the Supercopa do Brasil. The goals for the Alvinegro were scored by defender Gabriel Paulista and forward Yuri Alberto. With this result, the Corinthians team won its second title in the tournament's history, having previously defeated the same opponent in 1991 at Morumbi, with a 1 x 0 score, thanks to a goal by former midfielder Neto.

Right after the final whistle, still on the field, right-back Pedro Milans, who was not called from the bench during the match, was interviewed exclusively by Central do Timão and spoke about the feeling of joining the club “already as a champion” against a powerful team like Flamengo – the current champion of the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship.

“Yes, without a doubt. I am very happy to experience all of this. I arrived a short time ago and the group welcomed me in a very good way. And today, crowning it with this Cup, it is a very beautiful arrival. I hope it continues this way,” he began.

He then spoke about the role and behavior of the Corinthians fans throughout the decision against Flamengo in Brasília. For the decision, the stadium was divided half and half, and even so, the Fiel managed to stand out over the rival fans. It is worth noting that, for the match, 300 buses with members of the Corinthians organized supporters traveled to the Federal District.

“Impressive, I was talking with my family. They don’t stop singing, they don’t sit in their seats even when the match is stopped. Truly, all these people are impressive,” he said. Milans also responded if the culture of the Corinthians fans is similar to that of Peñarol, his former club in Uruguay: “Yes, I played in a team that also had a lot of fans (Peñarol). They are quite similar, this craziness of the fans, but many people came here, we felt at home,” he concluded.

Pedro Milans, 23 years old, was signed by Corinthians at the start of this season to provide competition for Matheuzinho. Last year, the Alvinegro did not have a solid backup for the position, as Léo Maná was loaned to Criciúma in the second half and João Vitor ‘Jacaré’, a product of the Corinthians youth academy, had not yet had much continuity with Dorival Júnior, who often had to make improvisations with midfielder Charles or defender Félix Torres, now on loan to Internacional, in the sector.

The Corinthians number 20 made his debut – so far his only match for the club – on January 25 (Sunday), in a 1 x 0 victory over Velo Clube, away from home, in the fifth round of the Campeonato Paulista, in Rio Claro. On that day, he played for 70 minutes and was substituted by Matheuzinho. Milans was developed in the youth ranks of Juventud, in Uruguay, and since 2022, he had been playing for Peñarol, from the same country.
