Simone Inzaghi will leave Inter and take over Al-Hilal and communicated the decision to the Nerazzurri brass in a meeting on Tuesday evening. He departs after four years, during which he won the Scudetto once, the Coppa Italia twice, and the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions, Sky informs.
The boss guided the team to the Champions League final in 2023 and 2025, losing to Manchester City and PSG. He had joined the Nerazzurri shortly after Antonio Conte fleed abruptly due to their economic difficulties.
Inzaghi had been hinting at his Inter exit in recent weeks and especially after the debacle in Munich, with Al-Hilal successfully completing their lengthy chase. He’ll ink a two-year contract, earning about €50M, Matteo Moretto reports.
The Nerazzurri had been preparing for the eventuality and will go all-in on Cesc Fabregas, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. However, it won’t be easy to convince Como. The Serie A runner-ups plan to go young and will also examine Christian Chivu and Patrick Vieira. Roberto De Zerbi has been linked to the opening but said he’s staying at Olympique Marseille.
It’s a stunning but not shocking turn of events. It’s tough to turn down generational wealth, but, after the recent disappointment, he evidently thought he had taken the team as far as he could. He was all too often the only scapegoat, although they did kind of leave two titles on the table in recent years. The anger for revenge wasn’t enough to keep him going. The timing and the small pool put the hierarchy in a bind, but it’s not necessarily a catastrophe. Since they aren’t going to overhaul the squad, a new voice could help them overcome the recent collapse.
