English Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town have reached a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Exequiel Palacios for a reported €30m including bonuses, according to a report by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
A Bundesliga and DFB Pokal winner with Bayer Leverkusen, and World Cup champion with Argentina in 2022, Palacios has agreed a four-year contract with Ipswich through to June 2030. With final negotiations ongoing, the green light for a medical will be given once a total agreement has been reached.
Ipswich’s move for Palacios comes after seeing previous bids rebuffed, with an opening €20m bid two weeks ago swiftly rejected. According to Plettenberg, the Premier League side will pay an initial €25m plus a further €5m in bonuses.
Since joining Die Werkself from River Plate in 2020, Palacios has played 186 games across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and creating a further 17.
