Trevoh Chalobah is a key man for Chelsea now and he did his part on Saturday – but his attackers and his fellow centre back let him down.

Trevoh Chalobah has established himself as one of the leaders in Chelsea’s dressing room, and you can always rely on him to come out and speak after a bad result.

On Saturday he and his colleagues were cruising, but a failure to add a second goal to their early opener kept Burnley in the game, and a red card for his defensive partner Wesley Fofana changed everything.

“[Putting games away] is what we’ve struggled with in the last two games,” said Chalobah in quotes on the club’s official website.

“We have had so many chances. It’s what we need to work on going forward – how to kill teams off. We have got one of the highest xGs in the league and we’re not capitalising on that.

“Red cards change games and it made it difficult for us. Conceding at the end was a killer because I thought we defended well until that point.”

He’s not wrong, we’re just so tired of hearing it. Missing chances has been a constant theme year after year, and no amount of coaching changes or buying new players seems able to fix it.

This was a great example of a game where the defence did their bit (until the very end), but the attack hadn’t given them the cushion they needed to make the result sure.

Wesley Fofana’s tears after Chelsea were knocked out by Arsenal were for personal reasons, it turns out…

Chelsea have been linked with a player starring for Moises Caicedo’s old club in South America.
