New Albion boss James Morrison says initial talks have taken place with a couple of West Brom players whose contracts expire this summer.

He was handed the job on a permanent basis on Thursday and will lead Saturday lunchtime’s final match of the Championship season at Sheffield Wednesday. According to ExpressAndStar.com, six senior players are out of contract at the end of June and decisions will follow discussions with the recruitment department.

Morrison has spoken to a couple of those players and indicated that discussions will continue, adding he will give his view within a shared process.

The expiring deals cover attackers Jed Wallace, Karlan Grant, Daryl Dike and Josh Maja, plus goalkeepers Max O’Leary and Joe Wildsmith. Club captain Wallace has returned to training and is in contention to feature at Sheffield Wednesday, which may be a farewell outing for him and others.

It is likely that most of the group will move on when their contracts end. Recruitment work will be led by director of football operations Ian Pearce, alongside new technical director Dominic Price, appointed in March, and head coach Morrison. Executive director Mark Miles said at Friday’s press conference at the Baggies’ Walsall training ground that player recruitment will be a collective effort involving those three.
