Jamie Vardy has joined Championship side Burnley.

He trained at Leicester’s Seagrave base earlier this summer amid talk of a return following the Foxes’ drop to League One, but he dismissed the prospect and was linked with clubs across England and Europe.

Vardy said he was delighted to sign, praising Burnley’s history and support, and adding that he is eager to contribute on the pitch. Manager Nicky Hayen said his experience and leadership would be invaluable and believes he can make a significant impact.

Relegated from the Premier League last season, Burnley sit bottom of the second tier with two points from five matches after a 2-1 defeat by Bristol City on Saturday, leaving them still without a win.

His arrival follows the £17 million sale of last season’s top scorer Zian Flemming to Ipswich Town last week.

Vardy ended a 13-year Leicester career in June 2025 with 200 goals in 500 appearances, then moved to Cremonese where he scored seven in 29 as they were relegated. He had the option to stay but chose to depart at the end of his deal and returned to England with his family.

He could debut when Burnley visit Wrexham in the Championship on Tuesday, before trips to in-form Swansea four days later and a home game against Derby on 19 September.
