Jander's former club Nuremberg are considering legal action against Southampton over the financial impact of the Spygate scandal, Bild claims.

Southampton signed midfielder Caspar Jander from the 2.Bundesliga side last summer for an initial £10.5 million, with further performance-related add-ons, including in the event of Premier League promotion.

They were expelled from the Championship play-off final after an analyst was found to have secretly filmed Middlesbrough’s training session. That ruled them out of the final, with Boro reinstated before subsequently losing to Hull City at Wembley.

The potential shortfall has been put at €1m, about £860,000. Sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou said: “We are still having our possible claims properly examined by our lawyers. Due to the fact that the facts of the case are not time-barred, we have no acute time pressure”.

They plan to look at the matter more closely after the summer transfer window closes in September, the report said. Jander is meanwhile attracting interest from leading German clubs, including Stuttgart and RB Leipzig, and Nuremberg are understood to hold a sell-on clause in the deal.
