Leeds United have launched a late move for Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya on deadline day after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk to Tottenham Hotspur on loan. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, five hours of the window remained as attention switched to the 21-year-old.
Sunderland and Hull City have also shown interest this summer. Bahoya is a French youth international who operates mainly from the left.
Born on the outskirts of Paris, he came through Angers’ system, making nine reserve outings before signing pro terms in 2022. He debuted for the first team against Strasbourg in January 2023.
He featured in the top flight and second tier, scoring five in 19 in the latter. Frankfurt signed him in January 2024 on a five-and-a-half-year deal worth around £6m.
Since then he has made 59 Bundesliga appearances, recording five goals and seven assists. He has represented France at Under-18, Under-19 and now Under-21 level, scoring once in five for the latter.
Raw but exciting, he is renowned for blistering pace. Against Bochum in 2025 he clocked 23.09mph, the fastest sprint in Bundesliga history, close to Usain Bolt’s 23.35mph average during his 2009 world-record 100m, and he was 19 at the time.
Last season he averaged 2.78 successful dribbles per 90 at a 59.4 per cent success rate. He also created 2.1 chances per 90 with 0.41 big chances.
End product remains a work in progress, he scored three goals last season. If a deal progresses, he could provide strong competition for Okafor.
