Former Olympique Lyonnais president John Textor was ordered to pay over $90m US on Friday by a British court in a case that dates back to 2022.

That was when the American purchased OL, investing $75m in exchange for a 15.7% stake in Eagle. The agreement was contingent on Eagle getting a quick introduction to the New York Stock Exchange, something which did not materialise. Under the terms of the deal, the fund’s claims must be repaid, with L’Équipe reporting on Friday that Textor owes more than $90m as a result.

The owner of Eagle Football Holdings and Botafogo is appealing the decision. According to him, the contract with Iconic has been poorly executed.

According to documents obtained by the AFP, the court’s decision confirms that Textor has knowingly violated his contractual commitments and must pay Iconic. Textor left OL over the summer, prior to the club’s successful appeal against relegation to Ligue 2.
