Jordan James has avoided serious damage and could feature against Preston on Good Friday, a huge boost to Leicester’s survival bid as they begin a seven-game run-in.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, the midfielder suffered an Achilles scare on Wales duty last week and was sent back to Seagrave for treatment.
Gary Rowett said the issue followed an awkward landing and was not as serious as initially feared. James is recovering and receiving treatment, and he has yet to train since returning, with several internationals also not back in.
A decision on his availability is due on Thursday morning. James is understood to be adamant he will be fit, but Rowett plans to balance minutes across Preston and Monday’s meeting with Sheffield Wednesday. The manager considers him potentially in contention.
City could be missing only three players, with Jannik Vestergaard and Aaron Ramsey pushing to return.
Harry Souttar is not yet in contention, though he played 45 minutes in an in-house game on Wednesday. Asmir Begovic and Victor Kristiansen are ruled out.
Late long-haul duty means calls may be needed on Patson Daka and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who were in action across the Atlantic on Tuesday night.
