Jorge Sampaoli has been sacked by Talleres after seven matches, ending his first stint in charge of a club in Argentina.

Talleres announced the decision last weekend after a 0-0 draw with Central Córdoba. His tenure returned one win, two draws and four defeats, leaving the side bottom of Group A in the Torneo Clausura.

He was appointed on 10 June and lasted less than three months. Sampaoli was the most expensive head coach in the club’s history, yet the move failed to take.

Hired by Flamengo in 2023 to replace Vítor Pereira, Sampaoli’s early work unravelled after an incident involving fitness coach Pablo Fernández in July, following a comeback win over Atlético-MG at Estádio Independência. After that, Flamengo’s form dipped.

Flamengo still reached the Copa do Brasil final but lost 2-1 on aggregate to São Paulo. He was dismissed soon after and replaced by Tite, finishing with 39 games in charge, 20 wins, 11 draws and eight defeats.

Subsequent spells brought little stability. He oversaw 10 matches at Rennes, then in 2025 led Atlético-MG in 33 matches, with a runners-up finish in the Copa Sudamericana.
