José Martínez is set to return to Corinthians in the coming hours after receiving a new passport. The midfielder posted a photo from an aircraft with plane and Brazil flag emojis, indicating he is flying to the country.
According to Meu Timao, his representatives told the club the document had been issued and he was already on his way.
He has not reported to CT Dr. Joaquim Grava this season, missing more than a month since the squad regrouped on three January. He went to Venezuela to renew his passport, then stayed after border closures amid the political crisis. He told the club he applied on 13 January.
In mid-January, Martínez said bureaucratic hurdles after a rupture in government had delayed the renewal and kept him from returning. He stressed his commitment to Corinthians and desire to be training, adding that staff were closely monitoring the case.
In his absence, André Luiz has impressed and earned a starting place, standing out in the 2-0 Supercopa do Brasil win over Flamengo last Sunday. Dorival has recently reiterated he still counts on Martínez.
Martínez has missed eight games this season. Signed in August 2024 from Philadelphia Union in the United States, he has 70 appearances, two goals, two assists, and Paulista and Copa do Brasil titles in 2025.
Even if he lands back in Brazil, he is expected to remain unavailable on Sunday against Palmeiras at 20:30 at Neo Química Arena.
