Atletico Madrid have recently dealt a massive blow to Barcelona’s hopes of signing top target Julian Alvarez.

The capital club have released a statement confirming they won’t be negotiating with Barcelona over the sale of Alvarez.

Atleti’s latest move has led many to believe that a move to Arsenal might be the only solution for the Argentine international, as he looks to move out of the Metropolitano.

However, as reported by Cesar Luis Merlo, Alvarez has rejected the opportunity to join Arsenal this summer.

This comes despite Atletico Madrid’s big statement against Barcelona, which suggests the Argentine international is still keen on a move to Camp Nou.

It appears Alvarez will do everything he can to force a move to Barcelona this summer, which includes rejecting the opportunity to join the Premier League champions.

That stance is a significant one, particularly given Arsenal had positioned themselves as genuine suitors, ready to pounce should Alvarez open the door to a switch to England.

Instead, the forward continues to keep his focus solely on a reunion with his preferred destination.

A difficult situation to resolve

Atletico have been unequivocal in their position, insisting they will not sell to a direct rival under any circumstances, citing a lack of respect from Barcelona throughout the saga.

That leaves the Argentine in a tricky spot. Barcelona, for their part, appear to have accepted they are unlikely to land Alvarez, with the club having already begun preparing a plan B that does not involve signing another striker.

With the transfer window winding down, time is fast running out for a resolution. Should Atletico refuse to budge, Alvarez may ultimately be left with little choice but to stay put, at least until January.

For now, though, his message is clear: it’s Barcelona or nothing, and the Premier League holds no appeal.
