Juventus have terminated midfielder Arthur’s contract by mutual consent, the club confirmed on Friday via social media. The former Grêmio player is now a free agent and can join a new team without a fee.
The post said the deal had been ended by agreement and wished him well for the future.
Arthur returned to Italy in July after failing to agree a new deal with Grêmio, with salary terms the sticking point. In pre-season at Juventus he was assessed by head coach Luciano Spalletti, coming off the bench in all six friendlies, including meetings with Chelsea and Inter de Milão.
Although available on a free, an immediate return to Grêmio is unlikely given the club’s finances. Corinthians, Cruzeiro and Fluminense previously sounded out his situation when he left the Porto Alegre club.
Juventus signed Arthur from Barcelona in June 2020 on a contract running to June 2027. Before moving to Europe, he won the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores with Grêmio, then joined the Catalan side in 2018.
