Karl Darlow has left Leeds United for Manchester United after rejecting a new deal at Elland Road.
Leeds had offered fresh terms but could not guarantee the 35-year-old Wales international a starting place, with plans to recruit a goalkeeper this summer, so he chose Old Trafford.
In a farewell Instagram post set to Olivia Dean’s Ok Love You Bye, he thanked team-mates, coaches, staff and supporters, said he was proud to help win promotion and then secure top-flight status, and pledged to watch on from afar while wishing Leeds success.
Given the rivalry across the Pennines, his message may not land with sections of the fanbase.
In a club statement, Manchester United said the keeper was proud to join an excellent goalkeeping group and eager to push standards at a club that demands them, describing the switch as a special opportunity at an exciting time.
Director of football Jason Wilcox, in the same communication, praised Darlow’s ability, work ethic and determination, calling him a strong, experienced addition to their goalkeeping group.
