'Keep running, keep learning' - Elliot Watt preparing for a new challenge | OneFootball

As Wolves prepare for a Championship return after eight years, former Molineux midfielder Elliot Watt is starting a new test with Samsunspor in the Turkish Super League and European competition. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 26-year-old moved after an impressive year at Motherwell.

Around his only Wolves outing, academy coach Sean O’Driscoll asked Watt to write to his 14-year-old self, a piece that showed uncommon maturity. Its closing mantra, to keep running, keep learning, resurfaced recently in a message from his dad.

Watt’s senior Wolves bow came in August 2018, a Carabao Cup win at Sheffield Wednesday, starting with Romain Saiss before Pedro Goncalves replaced him. Time with Nuno’s group, and guidance from senior pros, raised his standards even as chances were scarce.

He went to Carlisle, Bradford and Salford, captained Burton in League One, then moved to St Johnstone and Motherwell. He made the League Two Team of the Season and the PFA Team of the Year in 2022/23, was PFA League Two Fans’ Player of the Year, and is nearing 300 games.

Offers arrived from England, Scotland and MLS, yet the pull of Samsunspor, a fervent fanbase and a new culture won out. Pre-season is in Holland, with a home opener against Goztepe in 11 days.

Partner Tia and their two sons, Rueben and Aubrey, will join him in Türkiye, with another child due later this year. Settling quickly and performing for Samsunspor is the focus, and a raised profile could nudge him into Scotland conversations.
