We’re not quite sure who exactly will be in the Celtic dugout on Saturday evening for the Scottish premiership match away to St Mirren, although at this stage we reckon that it will be Martin O’Neill rather than Wilfried Nancy, who may just be there to get a first look at his new players.

The Frenchman is set to be appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement as the permanent Celtic manager and the deal could be done by the end of this week, meaning that ‘Brother Wilfried’ may well take a seat in the stand at Paisley in the unusual 8pm Saturday evening kick-off. The timing of the kick-off is to suit Sky Sports who last week so shamefully insulted the Scottish game.

What we do know at this stage is the match officials for the game as these were announced by the Scottish FA today via their official website.
The St Mirren versus Celtic match in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday 22 November will be refereed by Kevin Clancy and his assistants on the night will be David Roome and Ross Nelson. While those two run the line the VAR over at Clydesdale house will be Matthew MacDermid and he will be assisted by Sean Carr.

Clancy has handled two Celtic matches so far this season and on both times the Hoops have ran out comfortable winners, beating Livingston 3-0 in the Scottish Premiership in August and Partick Thistle 4-0 in the Premier Sports Cup in September.
The match of course is a dress rehearsal for the Premier Sports Cup final after St Mirren defeated Motherwell 4-1 and Celtic took care of theRangers, winning 3-1 in the semi-finals. Celtic had a goal wrongly ruled out and were denied a stonewall penalty when Reo Hatate was barged over inside the six yard box while in possession of the ball.
Many Celtic supporters hoped that Willie Collum would look at these incidents in his VAR review but they seemed to have been rather conveniently overlooked, unsurprisingly enough.
St Mirren have yet to sell out their initial Premier Sports Cup Final allocation of tickets, believed to be 9500 for the final which they need to do to trigger a second allocation for the SPFL. In a rather bizarre move the Paisley club has offered season tickets the chance to buy 20 tickets each for the final. St Mirren season ticket holders have until midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 19 November) to purchase their tickets for the Premier Sports Cup Final at Hampden Park.

For their part the SPFL want to ensure that Hampden is as close to capacity as possible so if necessary they will allocate additional tickets to Celtic for the final. Celtic currently have the entire North and East stands as well as a majority of the south stand and could end up with sections in the West Stand, as happened in the Scottish Cup Final win over Inverness Caley Thistle in June 2023.

Celtic have held back on the release of tickets for the final to determine the overall size of the club’s allocation and the club are hopeful that they will be able to accommodate the vast majority of Celtic supporters on the HCTS.
Although with the Celtic Ticket Official you can never take anything for granted.
